In 1651 two versions were published of the História Universal compiled by the Franciscan’s Portuguese Frey Manoel dos Anjos (1595-1653). Divided in three books, first it corresponds to the kingdoms and provinces of Europe; the second to the empires and monarchies, as well as to the provinces of Asia; and the third and definitive one to Africa. In first of such, its chapter 6, titled Das ilhas de Espanha no mar Mediterraneo, & Oceano Atlantico, it dedicates some pages to the Canary Islands. We present in this article a brief study about this question and the texts on the islands in two versions: original in Portuguese and his translation to the Spanish.
