    Las experiencias transculturales y el sentido del lugar han adquirido un importante protagonismo en la Geografía actual. Este artículo aborda las percepciones, sentimientos y transformaciones que experimentan tres súbditos japoneses en el proceso de «extrañamiento » que supone su estancia en Canarias. El relato de sus vivencias, que recogen tres libros autobiográficos nipones, publicados en 2002, 2004 y 2005, constituye un valioso testimonio de interculturalidad. El estudio pormenorizado de dicha narrativa revela muchas de las claves de los procesos transculturales: actitudes encontradas frente a la cultura de pertenencia y la extranjera, una nueva postura crítica al disponer de mayores perspectivas de análisis, la añoranza y el recuerdo del pasado, no sólo del lugar de origen sino también de aquel otro que constituyó un importante intermezzo en sus vidas...

    The transcultural experiences and the sense of place have acquired an important prominence in the present day Geography. This article deals with the perceptions, feelings and transformations of three Japanese subjects in the process of strangement that they feel during their stay in the Canary Islands. The narrative of their experiences, depicted in three autobiographical Japanese books, published in 2002, 2004 and 2005, is an intercultural valuable proof. The detailed study of the fiction reveals many of the keys of transcultural processes: opposing attitudes faced up to the belonging culture and to the foreign culture, a critical stance started from a greater analysis perspectives, the yearning and the past memory, not only from the original place but also from that which represented an important intermezzo in their life...
