  Muchas han sido las propuestas presentadas por los teóricos para llegar a interpretaciones de cualquier texto que sean plausibles o razonables, entre las cuales se encuentra un modelo discursivo conocido como el Fenómeno de la Cortesía, propuesta de Brown y Levinson. Un área de estudio potencial que no se ha explorado en detalle tiene que ver con el aspecto de la Cortesía Positiva del modelo señalado. Se indaga sobre los medios lingüísticos a través de los cuales los autores se comunican con sus lectores. Los objetivos son (a) examinar las estrategias de cortesía positiva empleadas por los narradores en algunos textos literarios, con un énfasis en las formas vocativas que reflejan la actitud del narrador frente al lector; y (b) determinar en qué medida el narrador propicia la participación del lector. El corpus consiste de cuatro extractos de novelas escritas en inglés. El análisis permitió identificar señales lingüísticas en los textos seleccionados de las estrategias empleadas por el narrador para reconocer al lector, así como el efecto de éstas sobre la reacción del lector frente al contenido del texto.

  It has been the task of many specialists to propose different ways to arrive at reasonable or plausible interpretations of the words a writer has put together in order to create a piece of art. There is a discourse model known as Politeness Phenomena, proposed by Brown and Levinson. We report a study in progress that intends to examine the linguistic means by which the fictional speaker directs comments towards the implied reader of the text. The objectives are (a) to examine the positive politeness strategies used by the narrators in a few literary extracts, focusing especially on the terms of address which reflect the attitude of the narrator towards the reader, and (b) To determine the degrees to which the various narrators invite reader participation. The corpus consisted of 1four extracts of novels written in English. The analysis has made it possible to identify linguistic signals and determine the strategies used by the narrator to acknowledge the reader, as well as the effect of such on the reader�s reaction to the text contents.
