    Juan Antonio Samaranch Torrelló, fue el séptimo Presidente del COI y la persona que desempeñó el segundo mandato más largo en la Presidencia después de Pierre de Coubertin. Su periodo supuso la actualización y el nuevo rumbo que modernizó y orientó la institución y la posicionó ante los nuevos retos que la sociedad le demandaba y que habían sido eludidos durante muchos años. Múltiples fueron las facetas que hicieron definitivo el momento histórico de su mandato, por ello Samaranch ha sido considerado como el más importante Presidente del COI después de su fundador. El presente trabajo, a partir de los documentos de los archivos de la Academia Olímpica Espai'lola, del Comité Olímpico Español y del Comité Olímpico Internacional ofrece una revisión resumida de los aspectos más destacados de su trabajo.

    Juan Antonio Samaranch Torrelló was the seventh President of the IOC and the person to have he Id the second longest term of Presidency after Pierre de Coubertin. His term of office made it possible to update and continue in a new direction. He modernized and led the institution, placing it before the new challenges which had long been demanded by society. There were many aspects that made his tenn of Presidency such a definitive moment in history and for that reason Samaranch has been considered as the most important President of the IOC since its founder. This current piece of work, which is derived from documents in the archives of the Spanish Olympic Academy, the Spanish Olympic Committee and the Intemational Olympic Committee, offers a summary ofthe most notable aspects of his career as President.
