Factores favorables para la realización de la Diálisis Peritoneal Continua Ambulatoria en el hogar

    Introducción. El incremento de pacientes con insuficiencia renal supone también un aumento en la demanda de atención por dicha población, creando así la necesidad de aumentar la participación activa del paciente en su autocuidado, así como en su tratamiento médico.

    El objetivo de este estudio fue conocer los factores personales y del entorno, que permiten la realización de la diálisis peritoneal continua ambulatoria (DPCA) en el hogar del paciente.

    Material y Métodos. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo, retrospectivo y transversal, con una muestra finita por conveniencia de 22 pacientes del Programa de Diálisis Peritoneal Ambulatoria Intermitente del Hospital General Chimalhuacán, en ambos géneros, con un rango de edad entre los 18 y 70 años. Se formuló y aplicó, previo consentimiento informado, un instrumento de valoración que proporcionaba información relativa a datos socio-demográficos y de autocuidado realizados por el paciente. Posteriormente se analizaron e identificaron aspectos de relevancia para la realización de la DPCA en el hogar del paciente. Finalmente se realizó una evaluación de los resultados obtenidos generando las conclusiones mencionadas más adelante.

    Resultados. La edad promedio de los pacientes fue de 54.3 años y la escolaridad promedio, primaria (59%).

    Las viviendas estuvieron limpias en 77% y se bañan cada tercer día en 73%; 59% mencionaron conocer los cuidados del catéter y 91% estaban interesados en recibir más información sobre el tema.

    Conclusiones. Se observó que las recomendaciones sobre conocimientos e higiene personal y características de la vivienda de los pacientes suelen no cumplirse. Esto sugiere la necesidad de reforzar la capacitación sobre el autocuidado de los pacientes del programa DPCA, en aras de mantener su salud y prevenir riesgos.

    Introduction. The increment in the number of patients with kidney failure also supposes an increment in the demand of medical attention by this population, therefore creating the need to increase the patients� active participation in terms of self care as well as in its medical treatment. This study had by objective to know the personal and environmental factors that allow the accomplishment of Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Diálisis (CAPD) within the patients� home setting.

    Material and Methods. A descriptive, retrospective and cross-sectional study was carried out. The study included a finite sample by convenience of 22 patients of both sexes with a rank of age between 18 and 70 years from the Program of Intermittent Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis of the General Hospital �Chimalhuacán�. Previous informed consent was formulated and applied followed by the application of an evaluation instrument that provided information on sociodemographic data and self care patterns. Relevant aspects for the accomplishment of CAPD at home were analyzed and identified.

    Results. The average age of patients was 54.3 years and average scholarity was basic school (59%). Patients� houses were clean in 77% and they take third-day baths in 73%; 59% reported knowing the care of the catheter and 91% were interested in receiving more information on this topic.

    Conclusions. We observed that the recommendations to patients about knowledge, personal hygiene and home characteristics, usually are not fulfilled. This suggests the necessity of enhance the ACPD program patients education, in pursuit of their health maintenance and risk prevention.
