    En 1974, Mu..ammad Kam.l .a�efar publico una primera edicion, valiosa pero deficiente, de la Ris.lat al-..ur.f atribuida al celebre sufi Sahl al-Tustar. (m. 283/896). En este articulo se presenta una nueva edicion critica anotada de este texto, uno de los primeros escritos conservados sobre las letras en el Islam, que tuvo una importante repercusion en otros autores posteriores, como los sufies Ibn Masarra de Cordoba o Ibn �eArab. de Murcia, que tambien abordaron la ciencia de las letras. Tras la presentacion y la edicion, se incluyen ademas la primera traduccion existente de la segunda parte del texto, la seccion sobre la azora Y.�f-s.n, asi como la primera traduccion de todos los extractos significativos del Tafs.r al-Qur�f.n de Tustar. que tratan sobre las letras.

    In 1974, Mu..ammad Kam.l .a�efar published the first edition -valuable but deficient- of the Ris.lat al-..ur.f, attributed to the well-known Sufi author Sahl al-Tustar. (d. 283/896). This article presents a new critical annotated edition of the Ris.la, one of the first preserved writings on letters in Islam, which had an important influence in later authors like the Sufis Ibn Masarra of Cordoba or Ibn �eArab.

Besides the presentation and edition of the text, the article also includes the first existing translation of the second part of the text, the section on the Koranic chapter Y.�f-s.n, and the first translation of all significant extracts on the letters from Tustar.�fs Tafs.r al-Qur�f.n.
