The geochemical characterization of the San Quintín mine pond is the aim of this study. This kind of waste deposits represents large accumulations of reactive minerals and subsequently, emission sources of heavy metals and formation of acid drainage. Samples from three boreholes have been analyzed in order to obtain a series of relevant parameters, such as the mineralogical and chemical composition, its distribution and variation in depth. Heavy metals content are significant in studied samples, but acid mine drainage has not been detected affecting the San Quintín mine pond.
