The difference in the graphical reproduction of the Mycenaean u- and i-diphthongs �when preceding a consonant� is a wellknown phenomenon of the Linear B spelling, the Mycenaean diphthongs au, eu, ou being in Linear B before a consonant as a rule reproduced by two signs.
