Generación de un diccionario con terminología normalizada en percepción remota, en los idiomas inglés, castellano, portugués y francés

    El llamado �campo de los sensores remotos� es un campo de estudio multidisciplinario en el que confluyen ramas de las ciencias y de la tecnología, entre las que podemos citar: Matemática, Física, Química, Astronomía, Biología, Electrónica, Computación, Agronomía, Forestación, Geología, Arqueología, Urbanismo, etc. Como tal, requiere del uso de términos científicos que recorren transversalmente dichas ramas. Estas, a su vez, van generando una nueva terminología produc to de su propio avance y de su relación con el campo de los sensores remotos. La falta de terminología normalizada, como ocurre en los idiomas castellano y portugués, hace que nuestras comunicaciones científicas en el campo de los sensores remotos estén llenas de términos en inglés para definir características, procedimientos, métodos, funciones, acciones, etc. Muchos idiomas se han visto embestidos por la avalancha terminológica del idioma generador de la tecnología de los sensores remotos: el inglés. La reacción ha sido despareja; Francia, Alemania, Austria, Italia, por ejemplo, lo han hecho de manera amplia y exhaustiva. España, Portugal y Latinoamérica no han reaccionado de manera orgánica nisistemática. En este sentido, la Sociedad de Especialistas en Percepción Remota, SELPER, publicó en el año 1989 un diccionario de la especialidad, que dado el rápido avance de esta tecnología resulta necesario llevar a cabo una actualizacióndelmismo. El objetivo fundamental de este trabajo es el de diseñar un Diccionario en los idiomas inglés, castellano, portugués yfrancés destinado alámbito científico� técnico yeducacional en Percepción Remota, a partir del Diccionario SELPER ; de esta forma, contribuir a dar un marco lógico a la descontrolada proliferación de supuestos sinónimos relacionados con el tema que ruedan libremente por el ámbito científico. Como asimismo, crear una herramienta útil y sumamente necesaria para estudiantes, profesionales y traductores, que facilite la intercomunicación entre las lenguas romances (portugués, francés y castellano en toda su diversidad) yel inglés contribuyendo a facilitar elacceso a la información de punta que beneficiará, fundamentalmente, alos estudiantes yprofesionales que vivenenelámbito latinoamericano y de lMERCOSUR.

    The Remote Sensing field is a multidisciplinary study area where scientific and tecnological branches appear together such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Astronomy, Biology, Electronics, Computer Sciences, Agronomy, Geology, Archæology, Urbanism, etc. It requires the use of scientific terms that go across transversally within these branches of human knowledge. Science and Technology at its proper time generate new terms which are produced because of its own advancement and relationship with the Remote Sensing field. Lack of standardized terminology is shared by Spanish and Portuguese languages. This lack ofstandardizationcrowdsour Remote Sensing Spanish� speaking scientific community withalistofEnglish termsfordefining features, procedures, methods, functions,actions, etc. ( As an example we can list a few of those terms: bias, cluster, default, jitter, looks, raster, speckle, etc. Infact, default isa Frenchword. ). In the same way as many languages, Spanish and Portuguese, are overwhelmed by a mass of heavy terminology that comes from the language that generates Technology : English. Reaction to this problem has not been in harmony. For instance, France, Germany, Austria or Italy, have done it widely and almost exhaustively. On the other hand, Spain, Portugal and LatinAmerica have not reacted in a systematic and ordered fashion. Ukraine that for many years has endured a fight against Russian language, the former Soviet Union, wanted to take out the Ukrainian language from such scientific domain by facing the building of a Ukrainian�English Dictionary for the Remote Sensing field based upon the ISPRS MultilingualDictionary. The International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) has published a worldwide reference Remote Sensing dictionary that is scientifically classified and constantly updated. The task for translating it is not an individual task, not even for one institution, but it is a joint task for the entire community of Remote Sensing. In the same waythe SELPER has published in 1989 a dictionary, due to increasing advancement ofthis technology, it is necessaryto updateit. The main goalofthispaperistobuild up a dictionaryin English, Spanish, Portuguese and Frenchtobe used in the scientific� technological andeducationalenvironmentthatbelongs tothe Remote Sensing field. We startwithSELPERDictionaryforgiving a logic frame to uncontrolled spreading of supposed terms related with this issue. We will create a useful tool widely needed in such a way to make easy an interchange among Romance languages ( Spanish, Portuguese and French in its whole diversity ) and English in order to access easily to scientific�technological knowledge that will benefit experts and students who live in LatinAmerica and the MercoSur.
