  • Resumen
    • The equestrian statues of Franco made during his dictatorship (1939-1975) give us an outstanding example of “political art.” This article studies the aesthetic and ideological attributes of the statue made by José Capuz and chronicles the history of the original statue and the two copies made for the cities of Valencia and Santander.

Also considered is the public and political importance of the statues revealed by changes in where the statues were placed, and whether or not the statues were preserved after the dictatorship ended.
