Resumen de Al hablar de la guerra civil española: imágenes y representaciones

  Una de las razones por las que la guerra civil española acaparó un interés internacional inusitado fue por la cobertura y resonancia que los medios de comunicación dieron al conflicto. Por primera vez, las revistas de todo el mundo proceden a ilustrarla con imágenes y se difunde en salas cinematográficas a lo largo del planeta a través de los noticiarios de actualidad cinematográficos con una intensidad inédita. Sin embargo, pese a esta intensidad, durante casi tres años, los espectadores europeos y americanos vieron los mismos documentos sobre España. Si en algunos casos esta poca variedad está justificada por la escasez del material disponible, en general podemos decir que modelos y símbolos de la representación se fijaron muy pronto, y solo un reducido número de imágenes se consideran emblemáticas del conflicto. Paradójicamente, los mensajes fueron muy distintos según el país de recepción, lo que necesariamente implica que una imaginería limitada y bastante homogénea sirvió de documento visual a muy distintos discursos sobre la guerra civil española

  One of the reasons why the Spanish Civil War got so much international attention was because of the intense coverage it received in the mass media. For the first time ever, magazines the world over published photographs of war, and newsreels of what was going on in the war were shown repeatedly in the cinemas of many countries. Yet, for a period of three years, there was little variation in the documentaries shown to European and American spectators.

  The lack of variation was due in part to the fact that not many films were available, but we can also argue that the symbols and iconography were established very early on in the war, and only a very reduced number of images were considered emblematic of the conflict.

  Paradoxically, the message varied greatly according to which country the film was shown in, which leads us to the conclusion that the limited and rather homogeneous visual symbolic representations were used in highly contrasting discourses on the Spanish Civil War.
