  • Fichte does not deny the realistic view of the natural consciousness, as a decided critic of realism he understands it for reasons of the theory of cognition and moral as a mere appearance. Hence the question of its genesis it put. As to Fichte the finite form of self is also a mere datum of the consciousness and a mere appearance which does not know that it is produced, Fichte has to assume a unconscious activity of the spirit. His systematical claim leads him to conceive all contents and objects of consciousness as produced and to deduce them from uncionscious and original activities of reason. Therefore Fichte is one of the most important founders of the doctrine of the unconscious, but not in the meaning of the empirical psycology, although he does touch its questions. Fichte's doctrine of the unconscious still stands in the tradition of rational psychology which becomes his philosophia prima in the frame of his transcendental philosophy.
