Resumen de Elección lingüística y situación comunicativa: Un dilema teórico

Los estudios sociolingüísticos que abordan las relaciones entre el lenguaje y la situación comunicativa han de enfrentarse a una compleja disyuntiva: si se debe suponer que la situación determina generalmente las elecciones lingüísticas, o más bien estas han de considerarse producto de la autonomía y la creatividad del hablante, que a través de ellas busca influir en el entorno. En este trabajo analizaremos cómo se han manifestado ambas posturas en los principales modelos y escuelas de la sociolingüística, y formularemos algunas conclusiones para el desarrollo futuro de una teoría integradora.

«Language choice and the communicative situation: a theoretical dilemma». Sociolinguistic studies approaching the relationships between language and communicative situations are faced with a complex dilemma: whether it is situations that generally prompt linguistic choices, or rather such choices should be seen as originating in the autonomy and creativity of the speaker, who intends to influence the environment by means of them. In this paper we will analyze how both stances are manifest in the main schools and models within sociolinguistics, and we will draw some conclusions for the future development of an integrated theory.
