Resumen de La conflictividad y mercado: la ruta del Ecuador hacia un TLC

El trabajo examina el proceso del Ecuador hacia la negociación definitiva de un tratado de libre comercio (TLC) con los Estados Unidos. Ubica los antecedentes necesarios, destaca la conflictividad social originada en torno a Ias negociaciones del TLC y especifica el carácter de tal negociación. Además, el artículo enmarca el proceso hacia el TLC en la región Andina, junto a Colombia y Perú. Finalmente, tiene el propósito de presentar, desde la perspectiva de la historia inmediata, una serie de reflexiones sobre el desarrollo económico del Ecuador y los condicionamientos sociales y políticos que se articulan al proceso de apertura del país al mercado abierto internacional, destacando la experiencia nacional en el contexto latinoamericano.

The article deals with the negotiations concerning a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Ecuador and the United States. Giving the essential background information, it also analyzes not only the work in progress but also the social conflict, created by these negotiations. Furthermore, this article focuses on the processes of Free Trade Agreements in the Andean region with Columbia and Peru. Finally, from the perspective of present history, its aim is to offer some reflections on the economical development in Ecuador, its social and political conditions in the light of Ecuador's opening-up towards an international market. Emphasis is laid on the national experience in a Latin American context.
