En este artículo me propongo reflexionar sobre las interpretaciones que la reciente historiografía mexicanista ha formulado en torno al establecimiento del federalismo mexicano. Me interesé por aquellas propuestas que revisan posturas predominantes para reconocer en ellas los problemas históricos que anudan y presentan sus horizontes interpretativos y sus perspectivas. Quiero resaltar que los historiadores considerados asumieron una empresa revisionista que sugiere nuevos caminos de aproximación a la investigación. Como todo proceso, lleno de accidentes y no exento de desacuerdos, los resultados de que hoy disponemos resultan apasionantes. Continuidades y discontinuidades, miradas de larga duración y coyunturas, y multicausalidad, son preocupaciones actuales de los historiadores del tema. A su vez, se están ensayando nuevas formas de trabajo. De tal manera que el campo de estudio se ha ampliado y hecho más complejo.

In this article I intend to reflect on the recent interpretations by the mexicanist historiography devoted to the study of the establishment of federalism in Mexico. Focus is centered in the proposals which review the predominant positions in order to recognize the historical problems entwined in them and to depict their interpretative horizons and perspectives. I would like to emphasize that the historians dealt with here developed a program that suggests new ways of approaching research. As in all processes, which usually are full of accidents and disagreements, the results, now in ours hands, are exciting. Continuity and discontinuity, long and short duration, multicausality are current preoccupations of historians. The field of the study is extended and is most complex.
