Resumen de Canteros y piedras de Almayate: aportación humana y material a la construcción de la Catedral de Málaga

La cantera de Almayate estuvo íntimamente ligada al devenir de la Catedral de Má!aga en la Edad Moderna, aunque la cronología de esta relación no fue muy prolongada, los avances en el Templo fueron claramente visibles y la piedra veleña dejó su huella y también sus defectos en zonas esenciales del edificio. En este artículo analizamos los dos aspectos fundamentales de su explotación, en primer lugar, los trabajadores empleados en la extracción y transporte y, en segundo, el material pétreo que fue embarcado con destino a esa Fábrica, utilizando para ello la documentación conservada en el Archivo Catedralicio en sus legajos de obra material y en sus libros de Actas Capitulares.

Almayate quarry was intimately related to the evolution of Malaga's cathedral in the Modern Age. Although this relationship did not take a long time, the temple works progress was clear and the stone from Velez-Malaga left its mark and obviously its faults in the main parts of the building.In this article we will analyze two basic aspects of the quarry exploitation: firstly the workers for the stone extraction and transport, and secondly the stone material sent to this factory. For thispurpose we will make use of the documentation kept at the cathedral archive: the work files and the books containing the Chapter Minutes.
