En este artículo se intenta situar La Nueva Atlántida en el sistema baconiano, tal y como éste lo expusiera en El avance del saber. Como obra de la imaginación, su lugar es la poesía parabólica, una mera ficción. Pero al estudiar el papel de la imaginación en la comunicación del conocimiento veremos reaparecer la poesía parabólica de La Nueva Atlántida, ahora mucho más próxima a la verdad, y también un nuevo e inusual modo de entender la razón.

The subject of this paper is the place of New Atlantis in Bacon’s system, in the way he expressed it in The Advancement of Learning. As a work of the imagination its place is the parabolic poetry, a mere fiction. But when we study the role of imagination in communication of knowledge, we find the parabolic poetry of New Atlantis again, now closer the truth, and a new and unusual way of understanding reason.
