Recoge este trabajo algunas noticias del desarrollo ciudadano de Villarrobledo en el último cuarto del siglo XVIII y primeros años del XIX, a través de la información bibliográfica de los autores que han tratado su historia y principalmente de la aportación documental que sobre la misma se ha producido en los archivos, Histórico Nacional, Histórico Provincial de Albacete y Municipal de Villarrobledo. El ensamblaje de esas noticias muestran un crecimiento continuamente alterado por circunstancias naturales, epidemiológicas principalmente, que imponían retroceso y pobreza a esta población con importante y mantenido ascenso demográfico desde sus orígenes, pero también dan fe de intervenciones de un adelantado talante liberal cuyos matices conviene revisar y valorar en el supuesto panorama inmovilista en poblaciones de escasa importancia administrativa.
