Resumen de Poética y Romanticismo: Gil de Zárate y la herencia neoclásica

Este artículo estudia las tensiones de la teoría literaria española de mediados del siglo XIX: a partir de la Poética de Gil de Zárate -autor considerado como «ecléctico» en el debate clasicismo/romanticismo-, Checa pone de manifiesto los elementos tradicionales e innovadores presentes en la preceptiva poética de aquellos años, y describe e interpreta cómo la conjunción del universalismo y dogmatismo clásico con el historicismo relativista romántico provocó contradicciones y paradojas en los autores y en la teoría de una época en la que el genio creador y el asistematismo individualista chocaron con el férreo y consolidado sistema clasicista.

This paper deals with the conflicts of the Spanish literary theory during the middle of 19th century: starting from Gil de Zárate¿s Poetics -who is considered as «eclectic» in the Classicism vs. Romanticism debate-, Checa states that the innovative and traditional elements which appear in the poetic perspective of those years, and he also describes and interprets how the conjunction of the classic universalism and dogmatism with the Romantic relativist historicism provoked contradictions and paradoxes in the autors and in the theory of an Age in which the wit and the individual asystematism came up against the fierce and strengthened classical system.
