El nacionalisme humanista d'Unió Democràtica [JOAN AULADELL Unió Democràtica s'ha definit sempre, des de la seva fundació i adaptant la terminologia a l'època en què vivia, com un partit nacionalista. Aquest tret, que el partit democratacristià no té en exclusiva a Catalunya, va més enllà d'una lògica reivindicació deis drets d'una societat que tan sovint ha vist destruïdes les seves llibertats politiques. En el seu article, l'autor exposa els motius pels quals el catalanisme d'UDC és la conseqüência lògica dels principis i dels valors humanistes que conformen el seu idead. Des del mateix Manifest fundacional fins als textos dels darrers Congressos, en l'article s'explica la veritable dimensió de l'històric "doble compromis" que sempre ha mantingut Unió: humanisme cristià i catalanisme polític, sense tractar-se de dos principis absoluts i de categoria idêntica, susceptibles de compatibilitat o de contradicció. Ambdós estan estretament lligats, en tant que el component nacionalista deriva necessàriament deis principis humanistes, que a la vegada li donen encara mês força, fermesa i contingut. La defensa de la personalitat nacional, la llengua o la cultura catalanes és una manera mês de defensar la nostra dignitat com a persones i, alhora, ens permet entendre, respectar i defensar les identitats deis altres pobles d'arreu.

The humanistic nationalism of Unió Democràtica [ JOAN AULADELL] Since it was founded, Uniò Democràtica has always been defined as a nationalist party, according to the terminology of the different epochs. This trait, which is not exclusive to the Christian Democrat party in Catalonia, transcends the logical demand for the rights of a society whose political freedoms have often been destroyed: in his article, the author addresses the reasons why UDC's nationalism is the logical consequence of the principles and humanistic values of its ideology. From the actual founding Manifesto, through to the texts of the latest Congresses, the article explains the true dimension of the historic "double commitment" that Unió has always maintained: Christian humanism and political (Catalan) nationalism, which are not absolute or identical principles, and may be both compatible and contradictory. Both are closely linked, in the sense that the nationalist component is essentially derived from the humanist principles, which in turn afford it greater strength, firmness and contents. The defence of the Catalan national personality, language or culture is yet another way of defending our dignity as a people and at the same time allows us to understand, respect and defend the identity of peoples everywhere.
