    • Nature observation leads to the conclusion that animal species make use of other species for their own conservation, improvement and survival. Human species is not an exception. However, due to its more complex central nervous system which provides it with reasoning, it can issue new criteria in Nature such as the ethical ones. Consequently, man may (and must) establish certain limits on the use of another animal species, considering: a) the need of use and b) the harm caused to the animal. Such is the case of Biological Research which for that purpose has self-imposed the criteria of: Reducing animal use; Refining present techniques in order to cause the least harm; and Replacing animal experiments, when possible, with others not needing thereof. Current legislation confirms those criteria.
