    Quin cristianisme en la nova Europa? [ALBERT SUEZ] Si el Concili Vaticà II va ser un pacte amb la Modernitat, l'autor, periodista especialitzat en temes religiosos i professor de la Universitat Ramon Llull, considera que l'Església catòlica té pendent un pacte amb la Postmodernitat o, si més no, amb la nova Europa, on el pluralisme religiós té unes fronteres molt més àmplies que les del cristianisme, i on la cultura es debat entre el globalisme i el fonamentalisme.

    Per l'autor de l'article, el pontificat de Joan Pau II es pot considerar acabat a tots els efectes ideològics i organitzatius. Considera que, en aquesta conjuntura, s'observen molts moviments, més o menys organitzats, que volen promoure un nou aggiornamento, una nova actualització de les maneres de fer, però també de les maneres de dir de l'Església Catòlica. Tot i això, opina que qualsevol proposta d'actuació no tindrà cap mena d'efectivitat si es planteja únicament en termes interns. Si el que es busca és ajustar comptes amb els últims vint anys del segle XX s'està abocat al fracas. Creu necessària una reflexió sobre la necessitat de tenir present un mínim mapa socioreligiós que orienti l'activitat de l'Església catòlica en el futur, per tal que sigui capaç de continuar acollint en el seu interior tots els qui comparteixen la mateixa experiência religiosa cristiana i, sobretot, perquè també torni a mantenir llaços afectius i efectius amb el que Joan XXIII va anomenar encertadament la gent de «bona voluntat». Europa necessita encara avui l'aportació de l'humanisme cristià sense fonamentalismes, sense sectarismes i sense concessions a les formes de religiositat light.

    What Christianity in the new Europe? If the Second Vatican Council made a pact with Modernity, the author, a journalist who specialises in religious matters and professor of the Universitat Ramon Llull, considers that a pact between the Catholic Church and Post-modernity is long overdue, or at least with the new Europe, where religious pluralism has much broader frontiers than Christianity, and where culture is torn between globalisation and fundamentalism.

    As far as the author is concerned, the pontificate of John Paul II is finished to all ideological and organisational intents and purposes. He considers that in this setting, there are many movements, more or less organised, that strive to promote a further aggiornamento, a new update of the ways of faith. Even so, he opines that any proposal for action will be totally ineffective if it is addressed purely internally. If the aim is to settle accounts with the last few years of the 20th Century, then it is doomed to fail. He believes that we must reflect upon the need for there to be a minimal socio-religious map to guide the activity of the Catholic Church in the future. to enable it to continue to harbour all those who share the same Christian religious experience, and above all to regenerate effective bonds of affection with those who John XXIII so rightly called the people of «good will». Europe still needs an input of Christian humanism, free of fundamentalism, sectarianism, with no concessions made to lightweight forms of religiousness.
