  • Language and linguistic community in the Valencian Country [TONI MOLLAI As a provisional conclusion, I would insist on the fact that it is necessary a turning point when talking about the "valencianist" speech. We should give up vindicating the identity as a metaphysical value and we should underline that the viability of a modern linguistic community depends on the construction of a minimal internal structure of a group with a certain conscience of belonging to it. This implies, therefore, and autonomous system of communication and some agents of reproduction which socialise their members according to a shared set of rules and regulations.

    So, wondering, amongst this multifactorial frame, if the Catalans and the Valencians speak or not the same language, or whether we are or not part of a same nation, as an example, is, in my opinion, a waste of time. Beyond my point of view, the introspective points of view will not solve the present social conflicts and will not have an effect on the behaviour of the individuals who belong to this linguistic community. Far from discussions in vain about the scientificity of philology, it may be time to require for a rational plannification of the material and communicative necessities of the Valencians, instead of claiming the immutability of the linguistic essences of the country.
