    Siempre que ocurren cambios importantes en la manera de entender la conciencia de sí mismo, esos cambios se corresponden también con crisis y transformaciones en la sociedad. Parece que los cambios sociales y culturales importantes van acompañados, antes o después, de una nueva forma de entender el "si mismo". Por otro lado, también parece que la estabilidad y duración del self o, si se prefiere, el sentimiento de identidad, se acorta cada vez más a medida que avanza el siglo y quizá, en general, a medida que avanza nuestra cultura. Al mismo tiempo, cuanto más tiempo abarca la conciencia de uno mismo, menos relaciones establece con el mundo, con la sociedad o con los demás. A finales del siglo, el self aparece como una conciencia saturada de información, comunicaciones y relaciones, hasta el punto de que el "sí mismo" es solamente un fragmento de la relación con los demás, como si estuviera más seguro de la existencia de los demás que de mí mismo. En este aspecto, parece que la historia del self transcurre de la desvinculación a la saturación de relaciones sociales.

On the other hand, it seems also that the stability and duration of the self or, if one prefers, the identity feeling, shortens more and more as it advances the century and, in general, as it advances our culture. At the same time, at the more time includes the consciousness of self, less relation establish with the world, with the society or the others and, to the inverse one, to smaller stability of self greater amount of social saturation. At the end of the century, self appears like a saturated consciousness of information, communications and relations, until the point of which the self it is only a fragment of the relation with the others, as if he was safer of the existence of the others that of the self. It seems that the history of the self go of the disengagement to the saturation of social relations.
