Pequeña y gran propiedad a finales del siglo XIX: Andalucía

    En contraste, y en oposición con otras regiones de España, todavía hoy —al igual que en el pasado— la propiedad agraria continúa siendo un problema en Andalucía.

    Continúa vigente una Andalucía de “señoritos” y de jornaleros; aunque no se deba olvidar tampoco la importancia de la pequeña propiedad, y sobre todo la preponderancia de la tierra a la hora de definir la identificación personal y social de las gentes.

    En este sentido se puede observar a lo largo del siglo XIX, y durante bastante tiempo más tarde, todo un conjunto de estrategias, en tomo a la acumulación, administración y transmisión de la propiedad, las relaciones entre tierra y poder, la coherencia económica y simbólica entre el ser y el tener, etc.

    El sistema de propiedad viene a condicionar la política agraria de los gobiernos, la coherencia entre proteccionismo, política agraria y poder político; y la responsabilidad del sistema de propiedad en el subdesarrollo, en la persistencia del arcaísmo y en la modernización del campo andaluz.

    In contrast, and oppossed to other Spanish regions, in the presente time —as much as it was in the past—, agrarian property continues being a problem in Andalusia.

    Together with an Andalusia of ”señoritos” (landowners) and labourers —actually a non existent one—, and although there are still visible sorne appearances of such model in relatively recent times, we also have lo consider the importance of small properties, and the extraordinary prominent value of land, to the point of seeing in property a way of social and personal identification.

    In this sense, it can be observed that along the whole 19th century, one of the most insintently prosecuted goals by different social groups has been the purchase of land, in search of something eIse that the land itself. This justifies the importance attributed to the inheriting strategies, and also to the accumulation, administration and transmission of property, the relation between land and kinship, the economic and symbolic coherence between knowing and having, etc.
