Resumen de Simultaneous placement and tuning of power system stabilizers via genetic algorithms

H. Lesani, P. Pourmohamadiyan

  • This paper introduces a new method of power system stabilization which determines both Power System Stabilizers Locations and their parameters simultaneously Al the first step, it is assumed that ah generators need power system stabilizers. A simple eigenvalue-based goal function is also defined to evaluate power system stability. Essentially this goal function is dependent on the real parts of system eigenvalues and tberefore it shows the measure of damping. Then efforts were made 10 shift system eigenvalues to the left side of the complex plane by selecting suitable parameters for power system stabilizers via genetic algorithms. Tberefore, the proper machines for PSS installation and iheir parameters are approximately determined. After eliminating improper PSSs, the desirable region of eigenvalues is dislocated to a more stable region in the complex plane and we try to shift system eigenvalues to this new region. These steps continue until enough damping for oscillations is reached. This method is simulated on a multimachine test system and the results are presented.
