Resumen de Algunos préstamos en el español de Panamá

Javier Giralt Latorre

  • This paper is concerned with the analysis of some foreign elements found in the press from Panama. We have noted that English, French and Italian are the languages which have had the greatest influence on the Spanish used in America and especially on the Spanish from Panama as can be deduced from the information herein. First, we have ascertained the reasons that facilitated, and in the case of English still facilitate, that influence, and we have analyzed the different morphological, syntactical and lexical borrowings found. Then we have fixed the extension of their use, that is to say, those Latin-American countries where those foreign terms are used, based on our research on this subject. From the conclusions obtained it can be stated that the borrowings are classified in several semantic fields, that their presence in the press may be the outcome of a widespread usage in the country and that the Spanish language nevertheless remains unaltered by their use.
