ABSTRACT:This thesis analyzes the use of two natural - limestone and silica - and recycled aggregates – electric arc furnace (EAF) and construction and demolition waste (CDW) – as the main material of geothermal grouting mortars used in closed loop ground heat exchangers (CLHGE). The addition of any aggregate type used to the grout increased its thermal conductivity. More than its proportion of use. However, CDW aggregate water absorption caused a thermal conductivity reduction for its highest proportion of use analyzed. It was also observed that any aggregate use improved mortar freeze-thaw durability, compared with neat cement. Finally, four different thermal response tests (TRT) were performed in four CLGHE, each containing a different grout, to determine the influence of the grouting material on the borehole thermal efficiency. The TRT analysis permitted the removal of the ambient temperature influence on the predicted ground thermal conductivity. However, no significant influence of the grout used on the borehole thermal resistance was observed.
