    • The illegal on-street parking is one of the traffic elements that has more effect in urban environments provoking the presence of bottlenecks in the different roads and, consequently, facilitating the appearance of congestion. This supposes an inefficient use of the urban space –urban space has, nowadays, a key value for the city development and their citizens. The effect on the citizens is both direct, for those who drive in the urban areas, and indirect, for those who have to deal with the externalities produced by the illegal on-street parking.

      This thesis presents a contribution in the analysis of the effect of illegal on-street parking in the traffic and, specifically, in the travel time of the vehicles that are circulating in the environment. Despite the different contributions made till the current date related to the on-street parking and, specifically, on the illegal parking effect on its environment, the analysis of the effect on travel time for different cases and study parameters has not done yet.

      The results of this work allow to analyze the travel time impact in the surroundings of an illegal parked vehicle as well as to evaluate different applied measures to reduce illegal parking in real environments.

      Finally, different future investigation lines have been proposed. These lines would allow, on one side, to know the effect of the illegal parking and to work on reduction measures in a theoretical framework and, on the other side, to analyze additional measures applied in real environments implemented with the goal to reduce illegal on-street parking.
