  • Resumen
    • This thesis investigates the role of intra-organizational networks on the development of technological innovations, innovation impact and novelty. The first chapter explores how the interplay between core/periphery positions in both the informal intra-organizational knowledge-sharing network and the formal organizational structure influences individual level innovation productivity. The second chapter aims at reconciling different network theories, proposing a two-stage model of individuals’ innovation productivity in which different network positions and mechanisms affect each stage of the model distinctively. The third chapter assesses the role of network awareness and knowledge distance in affecting innovation impact and novelty. Results show that individuals’ network awareness both increases innovation impact and inhibits innovation novelty, and that those effects are moderated by knowledge distance. Hypotheses where tested using data from the R&D division and three units of a multinational and multiunit company operating in the semiconductor sector.
