The present thesis analyses the dependences and the direct bond with water by the man through some constructive means, with different typologies and categories, on the territorial space of the religious encomiendas of Cieza and Ricote Valley, specifically in Cieza, Abarán and Blanca (Vega Alta del Segura, Murcia), during the Modern Age. A historical explanation, an interpretation and a classification about hydraulic units have been carried out according to the traditional canalization systems (dams, irrigation ditches or qanats), the water elevation gadgets (river waterwheels, low stream waterwheels or water mills), the grinding factories, the hydraulic communication ways (cunas, ships, bridges) and the infrastructures of collecting, storing (wells, puddles and tanks) and distributing water (ponds) which were installed, articulated and used on the religious territories of Cieza, Abarán and Blanca.

Apart from showing the location and the space layout of these tangible goods, the argument examines the policies developed about the water used for irrigation and its link with a variety of administrations from the different state institutions (religious encomiendas and local councils) and local organisations (irrigation communities). It is also mentioned the importance of several models used to manage water in the agricultural field, the evolutionary processes occurred on the scenery during that age, the economical-functioning (agriculture, cattle raising) and the commercial one (buying and selling and leasing) at the expense of water and its maximum use, and, And, finally, the identification of different masters of construction of that time . This panorama is accompanied, firstly, by an intrinsic study of the religious encomienda of Cieza and Ricote Valley as well as Cieza, Abarán and Blanca local councils and Cieza's Judicial Party, showing the importance of the Order of Santiago in this area, the social structures and its notorious features during the XVI, XVII and XVIII centuries.

To finish with, when constituting this research, it has been fundamental the special interest showed towards the search, the interpretation and the comparison of historical documents, belonging to Notarial Protocols (General File of Murcia) and Chapter Records of Cieza and Abarán, since there weren't books or specific records of these water systems and units. For this reason, the thesis is mainly based on historical compared details of the area more than on general principles, even though some data are compared with others, whether by specific or extern examples of the study area.
