ABSTRACT: Introduction
The aim is to analyze the current antibiotic susceptibility patterns of the pathogens involved in the pediatric population attending the hospitals of the Vicente Ferrer Foundation (FVF).
Methods
The antibiotic policy is analyzed in Bathalapalli and Kalyandurg hospitals in Anantapur, India, collecting data from patients up to 15 years, outpatients or admitted, and analyzing pediatric cultures from January 2012 to December 2015.
Results
Were studied 410 outpatients and 75 admitted. A 34.9% presented malnutrition (weight <p3), with double risk of infections, mainly dengue and gastroenteritis.
16 076 positive cultures are obtained. Predominate Gram-negative bacteria, highlighting Escherichia coli (23,16%). The antibiotics prescribed have a medium bactericidal capacity, compared to the high resistance of the six most prevalent bacterias.
Conclusions
FVF protocols should be reviewed, prescribing drugs such as colistin in multiresistants, monitoring resistance and establishing measures to ensure a rational use. In India specific guidelines for pediatrics are needed.
