El proyecto de la revista NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA se inició en 1979. La tirada era de unos 500 ejemplares que se distribuían entre los socios de la Sociedad Española de Nutrición Parenteral y Enteral (SENPE) y no había ninguna difusión de otra índole. En 1990 se incluyó la revista en Index Medicus y Medline. NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA fue incluida en SciELO a partir de 2003. En 2007 NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA fue incluida en la base de datos de la Web of Science, Institute for Scientific Information, con efecto retroactivo a 2006. El factor de impacto se hizo público en 2008. A partir de estos logros, NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA ha crecido de forma casi exponencial, pasando de tener 100 artículos anuales en 2007 a setecientos artículos en el año 2015. La revista se ha internacionalizado; 50% de los artículos son originarios de 64 países de los cinco continentes. Hasta julio 2016 aparecieron 8.036 artículos indizados en la Web of Science.
El factor de impacto se ha mantenido entre 0,926 y 1,497. NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA, por su creciente volumen de artículos publicados anualmente, incide significativamente en el factor de impacto de las revistas de su grupo. En la base de datos Google Scholar, NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA aparece en segundo lugar de todas las revistas españolas, con un índice h5 de 33, solo superada por la Revista Española de Cardiología (índice h5: 37). La revista NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA figura en Wikipedia® y en Facebook®.
En 2005 NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA lideró la Declaración de Montevideo, con los objetivos de establecer mejores mecanismos de cooperación entre las revistas científicas iberoamericanas de nutrición y asumir las declaraciones de Salvador de Bahía sobre compromiso con la equidad y acceso abierto. La revista NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA es Órgano Oficial de la Sociedad Española de Nutrición Parenteral y Enteral, de la Sociedad Española de Nutrición, de la Federación Latinoamericana de Terapia Nutricional, Nutrición Clínica y Tesis Doctoral Jesús Culebras Fernández 280 Metabolismo, del Centro Internacional Virtual de Información en Nutrición y de la Federación Española de Nutrición, Alimentación y Dietética.
A lo largo de estos años han participado activamente en NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA muchos grupos de investigación, algunos, los más asiduos, dependientes de la SENPE. Los grupos de investigación que con mayor frecuencia han utilizado la revista NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA como vehículo de expresión han sido: Grupo NADYA-SENPE, el Grupo CDC-Nut, la Red MEI CYTED, el Grupo OBESMINVA y el GRUPO INVEST 920030. Otros cuarenta grupos de investigación han publicado tres o menos artículos en NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA. A nivel de autoría individual, los artículos más citados se aproximan al centenar de citas. Los temas a los que NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA ha prestado un singular apoyo para su difusión han sido la desnutrición, el método CONUT, la obesidad, la cirugía de la obesidad mórbida, el tratamiento de la obesidad mórbida por métodos no invasivos, la cirugía en problemas metabólicos y al manejo médico de la obesidad. Una sección que se ha cultivado en los últimos 25 años y que ha tenido mucho interés entre los lectores ha sido la de los Clásicos en Nutrición. Cada artículo clásico ha ido acompañado por un comentario centrando el concepto en su perspectiva histórica.
Los premios Lección JESÚS CULEBRAS fueron instaurados para galardonar a las personas que se hubieran significado notablemente en el campo de la nutrición artificial y/o en contribuciones científicas a la SENPE. Los científicos que han dictado las lecciones Jesús Culebras, todas ellas publicadas íntegramente en NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA, han sido: Antonio Pérez de la Cruz, Miguel León, Ángel Gil, Mercè Planas, Jordi Salas Salvadó, Pedro Marsé y Abelardo García de Lorenzo. NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA ha recibido un premio de la Real Academia Nacional de Medicina y una mención de “Revista Excelente”, por parte de la Fundación Arce, dependiente de la Fundación Española de la Ciencia y Tecnología (FECYT).

La presente tesis recoge la trayectoria de la publicación “Nutrición hospitalaria”, poniendo especial énfasis en el reconocimiento profesional de la misma, consecuencia de la calidad de los grupos de investigación que con ella colaboran en la difusión de la alimentación artificial en el entorno hospitalario

The project of the journal NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA started in 1979.
Five hundred copies were published and distributed among the members of the Spanish Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (SENPE). There were no other means of distribution. The journal was included in Index Medicus and Medline in 1990, in SciELO in 2003 and in the Web of Science, Institute for Scientific Information, in 2007 with retroactive effect to 2006. The impact factor of NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA was announced in 2008. NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA has grown in an almost exponential way after these achievements.
Increasing from 100 articles published in 2007 to 700 articles in 2015, the journal became international; 50% of the articles came from 64 countries from five continents. 8,036 articles have appeared indexed in the Web of Science until July 2016.
The impact factor of NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA has ranged between o.926 and 1.497. NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA, due to the large number of articles published each year, has a significant effect upon the impact factor of other journals in its group. NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA appears in Google Scholar in the second position of all the Spanish journals with an h5 index of 33, only surpassed by the Spanish Journal of Cardiology (h5 index: 37). NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA led the Declaration of Montevideo in 2005, with the objectives of establishing better mechanisms of cooperation among Iberoamerican journals on nutrition and to assume the Declarations of Salvador de Bahia about compromise with equity and open access. NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA is the Official Organ of the Spanish Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, the Spanish Society of Nutrition, The Latin American Federation of Nutritional Therapy, Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism, The International Virtual Tesis Doctoral Jesús Culebras Fernández 284 Center of Information in Nutrition and of the Spanish Federation of Nutrition, Alimentation and Dietetics.
Many research groups in Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition have participated actively in NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA, some of the most common, dependent of SENPE. The research groups that have used NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA more frequently were NADYA-SENPE Group, CDC-Nut Group, Red MEI CYTED, OBESMINVA Group and Group INVEST 920030. Other forty research groups have published three or less articles in NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA. Among individual authorship, the most cited articles were close to one hundred references. The most frequent themes dealt in NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA were malnutrition, the CONUT method, obesity, surgery of morbid obesity, treatment of morbid obesity with non invasive methods, surgery in metabolic problems and medical treatment of obesity.
The section Classics in Nutrition became very popular during the last 25 years. Each classic article deserving more recognition was accompanied by an article centering it in its historical perspective.
The prize JESÚS CULEBRAS Lecture was established to award scientists outstanding in the field of artificial nutrition and in their contributions to SENPE.
The scientists who dictated JESÚS CULEBRAS lectures were Antonio Pérez de la Cruz, Miguel León, Ángel Gil, Mercè Planas, Jordi Salas Salvadó, Pedro Marsé and Abelardo García de Lorenzo. NUTRICIÓN HOSPITALARIA was awarded with a prize of the Spanish Royal Academy of Medicine and with a mention of “Excellent Journal” by ARCE Foundation, dependent of the Spanish Foundation of Science and Technology (FECYT).
