STYLESHEET
Notes for contributors
· Parts of the article. The various elements of the manuscript should be ordered as follows: title, abstract (150 words), article (with figures, tables and footnotes). The author's name should not appear in the article, unless it is the final version of an accepted article.
· Spelling. Manuscripts should be in British or American English spelling throughout. If written in Spanish, contributors should follow the latest guidelines of the Real Academia Española (REAL ACADEMIA ESPAÑOLA. 1999. Ortografía de la lengua española. Edición revisada por las Academias de la Lengua Española. Madrid: Editorial Espasa Calpe, S.A.).
· Typographical conventions.
· Italics: foreign words and phrases; emphasis or irony; examples within main text; words or terms which are the subject of discussion themselves (metalinguistic function); titles of books, journals and dissertations; abstract; name of author and university (in the final version).
· Bold: article title; emphasis in numbered examples.
· Roman type: all the article, except where italics and bold apply; quotation, emphasis, etc. in the abstract.
· "Double quotes" (or «comillas españolas»): quotations in main text; meanings or definitions of words or terms, article titles. "Double quotes" should also be used for quotations within Spanish quotations.
· 'Single quotes': quotations within quotations in articles written in English.
· CAPITALS: only first letters of content words in books' and dissertations' titles, and in names of journals; author's and editor's surname and first name initial(s) in the List of References / Bibliography section (not in the article text). Do not use capitals for emphasis in the text.
· Fonts. Contributions must be written in the Times New Roman font, size 12, except for the title which must be size 14.
· Headings. If the article is divided into sections and sub-sections, Heading 1. should be written in bold, with a two-line space above and a one-line space below; Heading 1.1. should in italics, with a two-line space above and a one-line space below; Heading 1.1.1. should be in italics, with a one-line space above and no space below (i.e. text on next new line). All headings should be numbered with Arabic numerals and end with a period.
· Paragraphs. The first line of paragraphs should be indented, except for the first paragraph of a new section or sub-section, and for headings. There should be a blank line between paragraphs. If the article is written in Spanish, the first line of the first paragraph of a new section or sub-section should also be indented.
· Quotations. Quotations in the main text should be given in double quotation marks (" "); if you are writing in Spanish use Spanish double quotes (« »). Quotations longer than three lines should be written in an independent paragraph, indented both left and right, without quotation marks, in a character size one point smaller than main text, and with appropriate reference to the source at the end, in brackets. Quotation marks should also be used for article titles. If the article is written in English, double quotations (" ") marks should be used; if it is written in Spanish, use Spanish quotations marks (« »).
· Page Numbers. All pages should be consecutively numbered in the top right-hand corner.
· Examples. They should be numbered with Arabic numerals in parentheses and indented. Linguistic examples often consist of three lines.
(1) Pater amat fillam.
(2) Patrem amat filla.
(3) Pater amat fillam.

"The father loves the daugher."
· Notes. Notes should be kept to a minimum. They should be sent as footnotes. Indicators should appear at the end of sentences, after punctuation marks.
· References in main text. They should be as precise as possible and give page references wherever necessary. Examples: (Surname, 0000:000-000); (Surname & Surname, 0000); (see also Surname 0000:000); ... as Surname says (0000:000). All references in the text should appear in the List of References / Bibliography section. Non-English and non-Spanish titles mentioned in the text should be immediately by followed by brackets containing a published translation title in italics or a courtesy translation in roman type. English titles in Spanish articles or Spanish titles in English articles need not be translated.
· List of References / Bibliography. References should be listed alphabetically and chronologically. Begin the first line at left margin. If an entry runs to more than one line, indent the second and subsequent lines five spaces. They should contain the following parts:
· Authors: Full surname and name initials, in capital letters; if it is an edited volume, you should add 'ed.' or 'eds.'; if there is more than one author (or editors), from the second one onwards, write name initials first followed by full surname in capital letters. This part must always end with a period. Note that there should be no space between two initials of the first names of an author; for example, Surname, A.B. Authors' names should not be repeated if they head the reference: from the second instance onwards, the author's name should be replaced by two dashes (--).
· Year of publication. It follows the last author's name. This part must always end with a period. If two works by the same author are included which were published in the same year, the year should be followed by a letter, with no space in-between and the author's name should not be repeated but replace by two dashes. For example, Surname, A.B. 0000a; -- 0000b. Contributors should refer to the edition they have used or cited in the article. However, if that edition is not the first, they should include the number of the edition between the title and the place of publication. Optionally, they may also refer to the year of the original publication, in parentheses at the end. For example, Surname, A.B. 0000. Book Title. Third edition. Place: Publisher. (First published in 0000.).
· Title. Book and dissertation titles must be written in italics; titles of book and journal articles and unpublished works must be written in roman type and enclosed within double quotes. Title and subtible capitals must be used for book and dissertation titles, but not for book and journal article titles. Subtitles must be introduced by a period and written in italics and with title capitals too. If the article is written in Spanish, no title capitals must be used. If your refer a volume, simply write Volume 0 in roman type, between the title and place of publication. In the case of translations, contributors should also give the reference of the original work, in parentheses, and include the name of the translator. For example, Surname, A.B. 0000. Título del libro. Translated by (Traducción de) C.D. Surname. Place: Publisher. (Original Book Title. Place: Publisher, year.).
· Journals. Names of journals should be given in full and written in italics, immediately followed by volume and issur numbers in roman type, separated by a colon and no blank space. Page numbers should be written in full. For example, Name of Journal 0:00. 000-000, not 000-0 or 000-00.
· Page range. Page range of journal articles should be given after the volume. Page range of book articles in edited volumes follows the editors after a comma. See examples below.
· Publisher. This part must contain the place and the publisher, separated by a colon. Place names should be given in the language of the work cited or mentioned, whether the article submitted is written in English or Spanish. In the case of a USA publishing house, give the name of the state in full: New York, not NY.
