------------------------------------------------- In this PH.D. thesis the behavior of structural elements with preload in the plane has been studied under the impact of high velocity. For the realization of this study three laminate of composite materials were considered; specifically: a quasi-isotropic laminate of glass fibre "E" reinforced with vinylester resin, a quasi-isotropic laminate of carbon fibre (AS4/8552) reinforced with epoxi and a woven laminate of glass fibre "E" reinforced with polyester resin. To determine the behavior under impact of high velocity of these laminates preload were evaluated experimentally: the residual velocity, the ballistic limit and the extension of damage area. With the development of these tests a methodology was established fot the realization of high velocity impacts in preloading laminate, that it includes a study for the design of the specimen geometry for the impact test in laminates in preloading. By means of the modification of existent analytic models found in the literature, in this PH.D. thesis a simplified model was developed, which is based in approaches energy. This model considers the presence of a preload in the plane and allowed to estimate: the residual velocity, the contact time between the projectile and the laminate, the maximum force of contact and the contributions of the different energy mechanisms that play role in the impact phenomenon. This model was contrasted with the experimental results, evaluating: the residual speed, the ballistic limit and the projectile-laminate contact time.
