El presente artículo examina el significado político, las claves epocales y las perspectivas historiográficas de lo se conoce en la República Federal Alemana como Zeitsgeschichte. El autor la enmarca en una más amplia disciplina científica surgida después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial y llamada “Historia del Tiempo Presente”, y la caracteriza por un horizonte temporal variable.
A través de este, la corriente se ha centrado, primero, en el fracaso de la República de Weimar y en el periodo del Tercer Reich, a continuación ha triunfado a partir de los años 1960 planteando nuevos temas sobre la historia nacional y, finalmente, ha llegado hasta una historia “reciente” del tiempo presente estudiando problemas actuales tales como las continuidades y discontinuidades de la política alemana tras la reunificación

This article examines the political significance, epochal keys and historiographical perspectives of which is known as Zeitsgeschichte in the German Federal Republic. The author contextualises it in a broader scientific discipline emerged in the aftermath of the Word War Second called “History of the Present” and characterized by a variable time horizon. Through this conception of time this trend started hinging with moralizing purposes on the topic of the failure of the Weimar Republic and the period of the Third Reich, then it triumphed from the 1960s onwards proposing new topics on the national history, and finally it has reached a “recent” history of the present concerned with current aspects such as the continuities and discontinuities of German policy after the reunification
