The article addresses the historical relationship between the reformist rhetoric that recognizes the “university” as the maximum institution of the educational system on the one hand, and the circuit that educates for work in the factory or industry on the other, together with the place that the technique and the technology disputed the professional disciplines (Medicine, Law, Architecture, Engineering, etc.). Therefore, we are interested in presenting the relationship between reformism that replicates the dominant Latin American university model, versus other models of higher education oriented to technology and workers: the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) of Mexico, the Universidad Obrera Argentina (UOA) and some brief references to the parliamentary debates about the creation of the Universidad ObreraNacional (UON).
