    La base intelectual del medievo cristiano, tiene su génesis en las discusiones que se realizaron entre los siglos II y III, donde personajes como Clemente de Alejandría, Orígenes y Tertuliano sacaron a la luz la necesidad de apropiarse, filtrar y depurar la tradición discursiva pagana en favor del incipiente cristianismo, aprovechando no sólo su filosofía y su ciencia sino las técnicas argumentativas de las que habían hecho uso desde antaño, como la dialéctica, la alegoría o la hermenéutica. Tal apropiación no se hace sin consecuencias, transforma y permite al cristianismo construir su propia identidad, posibilitándole además de marcar su distancia con el paganismo, usar estas armas en contra de sus rivales hebreos, así como afinar sus criterios para establecer qué es lo ortodoxo frente a lo herético.

    The intellectual foundation of the Christian Middle Ages, has its genesis in the discussions that took place between the second and third centuries, where characters such as Clement of Alexandria, Origen and Tertullian brought to light the need to take, filter and purify the pagan discursive tradition for the nascent Christianity, using not only their philosophy and science but argumentative techniques that had been used since ancient times, as the dialectic, allegory or hermeneutics. Such appropriation is not without consequences, transforms and allows Christianity to build their own identity, enabling him besides marking his distance with paganism, use these weapons against their Jewish rivals and refine its criteria for establishing what is orthodox front a heretic.
