    El presente trabajo está dirigido a identificar el desarrollo de habilidades y destrezas que evidencian los estudiantes en los procesos de investigación con fines de titulación. El estudio es empírico, descriptivo; la técnica utilizada es la observación, la misma que permite la descripción, comparación y análisis de datos, en una muestra de 20 estudiantes de la carrera de Psicología Clínica de la Universidad Técnica de Machala. Los resultados contribuyen a caracterizar las habilidades intelectuales necesarias para la identificación y planteamiento del problema de investigación, fijación de objetivos, búsqueda de información; se determinan las fortalezas y debilidades investigativas de los graduandos y se identifican las posibilidades   para mejorar los procesos de desarrollo y fortalecimiento de tales competencias a lo largo de la formación profesional de los universitarios.Resalta la importancia de la preparación docente para una acertada dirección en los procesos de tutoría, y a su vez la asertividad y habilidades de los estudiantes para acoger las orientaciones del tutor en el cumplimiento de la tarea. Esta complementariedad debe   convertirse en una cultura de trabajo a lo largo de la carrera.

    The present work is aimed to identify the development of abilities and skills that show students in the research process with the end of the degree program. The study is empirical, descriptive; the technique used is the observation, the same that permits the description, comparison and analysis of data, in a sample of 20 students of Clinical Psychology at the Technical University of Machala.The investigative process has been developed in several stages, initially bibliographic search was performed related to the topic, then came the determination of the most relevant, then analyzed the results, specifying the bibliography as students were responding. The basic references for the literature review have been, the reading of the summary and guidance expressed, also, the elements of the year, authors, location, the likeness of the task, key words, contribution of the concepts. The results help to characterize the intellectual skills necessary for the identification and approach of the research problem, setting objectives, search for information; determine the strengths and weaknesses of the seniors and identifies opportunities to improve the processes of development and strengthening of such competences throughout the vocational training of university students.Highlights the importance of teacher preparation for a successful leadership in the processes of mentoring, and in turn the assertiveness and skills of the students to receive the guidance of the guardian in the fulfilment of the task.
