    El artículo es producto del informe final de la investigación acerca de las características de las principales reformas educativas en Colombia desde finales de la época colonial hasta principios del siglo X IX, en el cual se adelanta una tipificación de los planes del fiscal Antonio Moreno y Escandón y el Arzobispo Virrey Caballero y Góngora, al amparo y bajo la tutela del celo reformador ilustrado del rey Carlos llI, destacándose el componente moderno racionalista que pretendía auspiciar las ciencias "útiles" como la matemáticas, la geometría, la física, la trigonometría, la mineralogía, la química y la geografía en procura del desarrollo económico del imperio y permitirle a la Corona española volver a tener una posición hegemónica en el concierto capitalista internacional.
