Resumen de English for specific purposes: approaches and strategies

José Mateo Martínez, Victoria Guillén Nieto, Bryn Moody

  • The field of teaching known as English for Specific Purposes has come a long way since its origins as a means of providing busy executives with efficient methods for learning the English they need in their transactions. Today the field covers all imaginable professions in which English is instrumental, from business and commerce to biological science. The techniques available to the teacher have also developed enormously: linguistics has provided models for the analysis of written communications and of speech, and electronics has given us new equipment for classroom and home use. We are now able to analyse with greater precision the content of our courses, so as to make them even more effective.

This volume sets out to offer a broad spectrum of the developments which have made ESP the exciting, innovative field it is today, and will be of value both to seasoned experts and to teachers who are relatively new to the ESP world.
