En total, la muestra ha resultado en siete series de televisión: Élite (Netflix: 2018- ), Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Las escalofriantes aventuras de Sabrina, Netflix: 2018- ), Sex Education (Netflix: 2019- ), 13 Reasons Why (Por trece razones, Netflix: 2017), I Am Not Okay with This (Esta Mierda me supera, Netflix: 2020- ), Riverdale (The WC: 2017- ) y Euphoria (HBO: 2019- ).

Duality emerges from literary or audiovisual fiction as part of a mythical mental construct present in the human psyche. This research aims to study how this dualism is reflected in contemporaneous television fiction through the critical analysis of the ideological discourse of two TV series: The Society (Netflix, 2019) and The Passage (Fox, 2019). The results indicate that both series are permeated with conservative values. This contribution makes visible the presence of ideological elements in fantastic TV series, as well as emphasizes the importance of their study and comparison with other TV productions within a specific broadcasting period.

This paper examines the potential of the fake documentary or mockumentary as a persuasive tool. Framed in the theory of cultural imperialism, this article analyzes Inside the war room (BBC, 2016), a tv-program that generated a multitude of polarized reactions among political and journalistic actors. The instrument used has been the Critical Discourse Analysis, which has allowed to relate text and context. The main conclusion of the study is that the false-documentary is a genre articulated around particular narrative, expressive and argumentative forms that stress the reality-fiction relationship in order to provoke a sense of insecurity in the viewer.

In TV fiction, over the past years, it has been possible to detect the recuperation of specific themes linked to a particular sociopolitical context: the Cold War. The Russians and the Soviet era are becoming gradually more commonplace in highly popular television serial narratives like the miniseries Chernobyl. Accordingly, the main aim of this paper is to determine how its discourse is constructed and its relationship with the television industry and the current socio-political reality. The ultimate intention is to reflect on how TV fiction has become a valuable benchmark for gauging the situation of a specific society and how it has contributed to constructing its collective imaginaries.

Electoral debates are one of the key events in political campaigns. On social networks, viewers comment on and share all kinds of opinions about the candidates' performances or proposals. This work aims to reveal, by using a quantitative methodology, which types of responses have predominated on Twitter regarding the electoral debate held on November 4, 2019, on TVE. The findings indicate the predominant position of humorous observations on this social network. The discussion of the results revolves around a core issue: the ideological polarization that prevails on Twitter.

The aim of this article is to discuss the propagandistic use of mass culture. In order to do this, the article focuses on the specific case of the political coalition Adelante Andalucia using Genette's transtextuality model, a scheme that has allowed the perception of the transfer of meaning from mass culture to the political world. The selected period was December 2018 and the textual corpus under analysis includes Adelante Andalucía's Twitter feed (both tweets and re-tweets). The data indicate that the coalition has referred to two highly regarded audiovisual products: Game of Thrones (Benioff y Weiss 2011-2019) and The Avengers saga (Whedon 2012; Whedon 2015; Russo y Russo 2018). However, the results point to the lack of strategy in the coalition when deploying these works in its communication. In this sense, more attention has been paid to the popularity of the products than to the ideological load they contain.

This paper analyzes the fiction serial House of Cards (2013-), broadcasted by Netflix, concretely examining the roles of Claire and Frank Underwood. It’s starting point is the assumption that television narratives have the capacity to provide its audiences with useful frameworks to interpret reality; more specifically, some of its products, despite belonging to the realm of fiction, build explanatory interpretations of society. From there, our research focuses on the study of the representation of leadership in this political drama, both male and female, with the purpose of establishing which one is most efficient in this show. To this end, the methodology draws concepts from Audiovisual Narrative and Power Studies and the discussion of its results focuses on the differences represented in both characters in their respective leaderships.

Productions carried out during the third golden age of television enjoy widespread popularity today. Within some of the TV series in this category, women who hold positions of power can occasionally be found as in the TV show analyzed in this article, which is Vikings. In this series, one of the main protagonists, Lagertha, amasses great admiration from the female audience. In order to know if this success corresponds to the reality of the character (her personality and the actions she takes), this study will carry out an analysis to determine the archetype of the protagonist and to develop a semiotic study of the character and her power relations with other subjects.
