This article analyses the activity of the manin Andalusian electricity companies -in particular The Mengemor company- and the government in Burgos to ensure the production and supply of electricity during the Spanish civil war, especially in those industries considered to be of strategic importance. To this end the following factors are examined: 1. The evolution of the regional electricity grid from the end of 1910 to 1935; 2. The organisations that played a role in the electricity sector and the work they undertook; 3. The amount of electricity interchanged between companies.

The history of the electric company Mengemor during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) is interesting in that it was one of the main electric companies in Spain, and its management and installations were divided during de conflict, and a large parto of these were on the front line. For each side in the conflict (the republicans and the nationalists) the following will be analyzed: how they were managed and by whom, the state of the installations, how the were repaired, and the electricity which was produced. In general, production grew in both zones. This can be explained by good management and the scarce damage inflicted on the installations.

The present work examines the development of the gas industry in Málaga during the 1940s, a business which faced serious difficulties. Within the limitations imposed by the documentation available, the following, most influential factors on its evolution, will be analysed, namely: coal supply, tariffs, technology, labour and the characteristics of demand. The sources have been the company records, the statistics of the National water, gas and electricity Syndicate and, for the first time, for this section of the Registro Industrial, the minutes of the fore-mentioned syndicate.
