The Seventh Seal tells two intertwined stories: the religious and existential crisis of an anguished medieval knight returning to his homeland after taking part in one of the last Crusades; and the story of love and hope represented by a family of strolling comedians whose involvement in the circumstances surrounding the last days of the knight’s life will contribute to an interesting case of what I have called redemption by love. On the basis of an analysis of different scenes and dialogues from the film, we explore both stories and their mutual implications.

In this paper I examine the possibilities and limits to dialogue in the content of Hans Georg Gadamer’s Hermeneutics. After a brief introduction to the problem, I draw some thesis of the gadamerian analysis on th...

The similarities between the ontological argument of Anselm of Canterbury and the arguments that Avicenna used in his demonstration for the existence of God have been highlighted since the first half of the 20 th century. We focus on two chapters of the third part (Metaphysics) of Avicenna’s al-Ishārāt wal-Tanbīhāt ( Remarks and Admonitions ) and chapters II-IV of Anselm’s Proslogion , providing a new interpretation of their affinities.

The question about the meaning of philosophy cannot be reducen to a recognition of the charanter of «Philosophy» in Adelard of Bath’s treatise On the same and the different, i.e., not to be reduced to a scholar compilation on the trívium and the quadrivium. Even when the work adopts the form of a «protrepticon», its exposition on the «arts» points further tan what we can take as an elementary knowledge, not just in the skills a «master» should got at hand, but also in the subject matters taken regularly in the so called «french schools». Adelard’s conception of philosophy points to a renewal wich, in a sense, is going to be an example of a new attitude on the knowledge that the history of intellect has ascribe to the stream of changes attributed to the «Renaissance of the 12th Century».

Among Heidegger main lines of influence on his initial intellectual background, we should quote a deep knowledge on the History of Philosophy -Classical, Medieval and Modern thought-, a clear concern about fundamental sciences, and a radical influence from Phenomenology. Since very early in his career, Heidegger was deeply interested to give an answer on the relation between philosophy, science and world-view, trying to outline -in an equidistant position from Dilthey and Husserl- a personal and original interpretation. My article develops a contrast reading between the thesis he support in his Seminar «Introduction to Philosophy» and the recent critics he has received from the side of the gnoseological materialism.

In this paper I examine the possibilities and limits to dialogue in the content of Hans Georg Gadamer’s Hermeneutics. After a brief introduction to the problem, I draw some thesis of the gadamerian analysis on the relations between language and knowledge. Then I analyze the use that Gadamer grants to rhetoric in the content of his conception on understanding, characterizing it as language and dialogue; in this sense I quote a reference to the intellectual debate hold between Gadamer and Jurgen Habermas, and some of the connotations of Habermas criticism on Gadamer. Finally, I consider some important aspects on the limits and possibilities of dialogue, quoted by the «misunderstanding» between Gadamer and Derrida.

Although taking an apparently diverse position, both films disclose two masterly reflections on the problem of 'suspension of meaning'; the disordered and primary human responses to the unknown; the huge conflicts that provoke our most unspeakable passions, and our limited capacity to face them.

In the context of the introductory study to the new critical edition and translation into Spanish of the short anonymous treatise Tathlīth al-waḥdānīyah (Trinitizing the Unity [of the Godhead], ed. and trans. Juan Pedro Monferrer, introductory study by P. Mantas España and J. P. Monferrer, I got the opportunity to explore certain Mozarabic apologetic
texts that Thomas Burman analyzed in depth twenty years ago and which he has recently resumed —Llull devoted laudatory comments to those texts. In fact, Lull’s awareness of Mozarabic polemics and apologetics in the textual context we are dealing with is an illustration
of an interesting phenomenon of transmission and exchange of knowledge that took place all across the Iberian Peninsula and the Mediterranean basin during the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Recently, Burman has returned to the topic with evocative new
perspectives and linkages — Rodrigo Jiménez de Rada and Ramon Martí, among others — that we analyze in the context of our own research.

The article deals with a three year collaboration program between 'Filmoteca de Andalucía (Film Institute of Andalusia) and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Córdoba. The aim of this educational project, entitled 'To look, to think and to debate', was to integrate film analysis in the syllabi of some Philosophy courses, more than using films as incidental examples. The general aims of that program are addressed by using two Spanish films as case studies,
and highlighting both, the new learning chances and the didactical problems.

When we investigate the historical events taking place in the Iberian Peninsula in the first decades of the thirteenth century, we witness a process of loss and appropriation of power between two great contenders: the Almohad Caliphate and the Christian kingdoms in their expansion stage. Studying the strengthening of power on both sides of the political and military struggle, we encounter narratives which hold some affinities, as we shall see below. The making of those narratives involve different intellectual actors who intervene as promoters, designers or collaborators. In the background of this process,
Mark of Toledo was to play a particularly interesting role as a translator.
This article presents current findings of ongoing research on the intellectual relations between Rodrigo Jimenez de Rada and Ibn Tūmart through Mark of Toledo’s translations, as part of the project cited above. I shall outline several issues that should be taken into account for future updated research on Rodrigo and Ibn Tūmart’s intellectual connection. I have taken Mark and his
translation of Ibn Tūmart’s ‘Aqīda as a relevant textual part of one of the narratives that we are currently studying. This paper partially focuses on a
section of my current research which I have provisionally entitled ‘Ibn Tūmart’s ontotheological argument’. However, the project explores a wider intellectual scope and other narratives in which this paper finds its contextualization. The steps and rationale of the plan are as follows.
