    A presente pesquisa tem por objetivo apresentar a evolução histórica da proteção dos direitos da personalidade da Antiguidade Clássica até a era High-Techda Informação, que no Brasil culminou com a Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados Pessoais (LGPD). Esse novodiploma legal regulamenta o tratamento de dados e as informações pessoais, colocando no controle desses os próprios titulares, que poderão ou não consentir no tratamento e utilização desses conhecimentos por empresas e pelo Estado. A LGPD tem como fundamento a proteção e desenvolvimento da personalidade humana, com atenção a autodeterminação informativa, que se baseia na privacidade, liberdade e autonomia do indivíduo, a qual confere ao indivíduo os subsídios suficientes para autorizar e controlar como os seus dados que se encontram no ambiente virtual serão tratados e gerenciados, bem como impor aos controladores limites e deveres, como a obrigatoriedade do consentimento dos titulares daqueles. Esta pesquisa foi realizada por meio do método hipotético-dedutivo, com levantamento histórico da proteção de dados e dos direitos da personalidade em obras científicas.

    This research aims to present the historical evolution of the protection of personality rights, from Classical Antiquity to the current High-Tech Age of Information, which in Brazil culminated in the General Law for the Protection of Personal Data (LGPD). This new legal statute regulates the processing of data and personal information, placing in the control of these the holders themselves, who may or may not consent to the treatment and use of this knowledge by companies and by the State. The LGPD is based on the protection and development of the human personality, with attention to informational self-determination, which is based on the individual's privacy, freedom and autonomy, which provides the individual with sufficient subsidies to authorize and control how their data is found in the virtual environment will be treated and managed, as well as impose limits and duties on controllers, such as the mandatory consent of data and rights holders. This research was carried out using the hypothetical-deductive method, with a historical survey of data protection and personality rights in scientific works.
