Resumen de El estudio de las emociones en educación superior: modelos, críticas y reflexiones

Claudia Quiroga Sanzana

  • The aim of this theoretical review is to describe the evolution of the concept of emotional intelligence, to present the diversity of the models of study and to highlight their contributions to higher education. To this end, the construction of the concept of emotional intelligence (EI) from its origins is addressed, identifying the main models that have influenced its development: ability, competence, trait and mixed models. Within the conceptual analysis, a review of the critical view of the construct is added, addressing elements that refer to negative consequences of the development of EI at both personal and social levels. As a conclusion, it is suggested that the differences in EI research models may be due not only to how they understand the concept, but also to what their instruments actually measure, which should be differentiated. However, despite the controversy, it is concluded that the benefits of including EI in higher education exceed the challenges, so that its integration is proposed as a key tool for promoting an enriched academic environment aimed at the integral development of future professionals
