This study examines the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education, focusing on student and faculty perceptions of its use in learning and assessment. The growing adoption of AI in this area presents opportunities to personalize teaching and improve objectivity in assessments, but also raises concerns about pedagogical adaptation, privacy and ethics. The aim is to explore how students and teachers perceive these benefits and challenges, providing a deep understanding of their potential and limitations in the education sector. The methodology included a systematic review of 285 articles in the Scopus database, accompanied by a bibliometric analysis using RStudio and Bibliometrix, to map the most influential research and the evolution of the topic. The findings reveal that AI makes it possible to personalize teaching, optimize resources and improve accuracy in assessments by analyzing large volumes of data in real time. However, it raises ethical and regulatory challenges, such as overreliance on technology and concerns about the privacy of student data, highlighting the need for a balance that maximizes the benefits of AI without replacing human judgment. In conclusion, the study suggests that an ethical and careful integration of AI has the potential to improve the educational experience, always respecting the privacy and autonomy of students.
