  The objective of the present article is to discourse about sustainable development as a fundamental right with such relevancy nowadays, and the role of Titles and Documents Registry as a direct agent in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In order to achieve the proposed objectives, it initially deals with modernity and the need for sustainable development, bringing theories on the topic and development produced risks to the debate. Next, the UN SDGs and its 2030 Agenda are addressed, so as to ensure not only the very continuity of sustainable development but also the existence of future generations. It also explains the notary and public registration activity, widely known as an activity performed by Notary Offices throughout Brazil, in this study, specifically the role of the Titles and Documents Registry as an agent of sustainable development and, finally, it deals with ‘The House Is Ours’ Project experience, which has direct participation of the titles and documents registry office to formalize ownership through the term of ownership registration, which guarantees legal certainty and effectiveness of the right to housing and other positive factors to enforce rights and dignity for their holders. The dialectical method is used for that, with bibliographical research as an investigation method and an empirical basis in the presented case. It is concluded that there is both possibility and necessity regarding participation of extrajudicial services so that the SDGs can be achieved.

  O presente artigo tem por objetivo tratar sobre o desenvolvimento sustentável como direito fundamental, tão relevante atualmente, e a atuação do Registrador de Títulos e Documentos como agente direto da consecução dos Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável da ONU (ODS). Para atingir os objetivos propostos, incialmente trata da modernidade e a necessidade do desenvolvimento sustentável, trazendo ao debate as teorias sobre o tema e os riscos produzidos pelo desenvolvimento. Em seguida abordam-se os ODS da ONU e sua Agenda 2030, a fim de assegurar não só a própria continuidade do desenvolvimento sustentável como também a existência das gerações futuras. Explana-se ainda sobre a atividade notarial e de registro público, amplamente conhecida como atividade desempenhada pelos Cartórios, em todo o Brasil, especificamente neste estudo, sobre a atuação do Registrador e Títulos e Documentos como agente de desenvolvimento sustentável e, por fim, trata-se da experiência do Projeto A Casa é Nossa, que conta com a participação direta do cartório de registro de títulos e documentos, para formalizar a posse por meio do registro do termo de posse, garantido segurança jurídica e eficácia do direito à moradia, e outros fatores positivos para assegurar direitos e dignidade aos seus titulares. Para tanto, utiliza-se o método dialético, tendo como método de investigação a pesquisa bibliográfica, com fundamento empírico no caso apresentado. Conclui-se para possibilidade e necessidade de participação das serventias extrajudiciais para que sejam alcançados os ODS.
