Resumen de Um périplo em torno da água e das comunidades pré/proto-históricas do território português

  The ways in which human communities relate themselves with the sea, the rivers and their shores have been, naturally, very diverse in their purposes, strategies and nature according to the historical situations. From the obtaining of day-to-day resources for survival up to the construction of boats that enabled the exchange of goods, conducting to new geographies, the distance could be long or the other way around. Starting from a broad understanding of “Nautical and subaquatic archaeology” and aiming to elaborate a synthesis of the knowledge about a variety of findings that occurred in the Portuguese territory during the Pre and Protohistory, the author goes through several subjects surrounding water based on the empirical testimonials selected. Firstly, the testimonials of tangible and intangible boats, the preserved pirogues and the nautical iconography on ceramics are analysed. Afterwards, some of the fish resources are articulated with fishing gear, such as fishhooks, needles, nets and net weights. Finally, what the sea drags is observed, namely the shells transformed into body adornments or incorporated into sacred constructions. Other equally pertinent issues are still to address, so many are the labyrinths that intersect in the water.

  Os modos como as comunidades humanas se relacionaram com o mar, com os rios ou com as suas margens foram, naturalmente, muito diversos nos propósitos, estratégias e natureza consoante as conjunturas históricas. Da obtenção de recursos vitais para a sobrevivência do dia-a-dia à construção de embarcações que proporcionaram a troca de bens, conduzindo a novas geografias, a distância podia ser curta ou o seu contrário. Partindo de um entendimento lato sobre “Arqueologia náutica e subaquática” e visando elaborar uma síntese dos conhecimentos acerca dos diversos achados ocorridos no atual território português durante a Pré- e a Proto-História, a autora percorre diversas temáticas em torno da água tendo por base evidências empíricas que seleccionou.

  Em primeiro lugar analisam-se os testemunhos de embarcações tangíveis e intangíveis, as pirogas conservadas e a iconografia náutica sobre cerâmica. Depois articulam-se alguns dos recursos piscícolas com o equipamento pesqueiro, como anzóis, agulhas, redes e pesos de rede. Por fim, olha-se para o que o mar arrasta, designadamente para as conchas transformadas em adornos corporais ou incorporadas em construções sagradas. Em suspenso ficaram outras problemáticas igualmente pertinentes, tantos são os labirintos que se entrecruzam na água.
