L'aportació dels historiadors del primer terç del segle XX va servir per consolidar, sobre unes noves bases ideològiques i historiogràfiques, la idea que l'època medieval era el fonament de la nació catalana i un moment d'auge econòmic, polític, social i cultural. En aquesta nova formulació hi van tenir un gran paper Antoni Rubió i Lluch –iniciador de tota una generació d'historiadors– i Ferran Soldevila, que féu d'enllaç amb els historiadors de la segona meitat de la centúria.

The contributions of the historians of the first third of the 20th Century had the role of consolidating, on a new ideological and historiographical basis, the idea that the Medieval period was the foundation of the Catalan nation and a time of economical, political social and cultural growth. In this new formulation two historians had a great role: Antoni Rubió i Lluch –initiator of a whole new generation of historians– and Ferran Soldevila who became the link with historians of the second half of the century.
